Classic Car Build tips - Fuel System upgrade, Episode 3 - part 1
Hello Everyone,
To get the maximum amount of power from your classic car you need a lot of gas. While the body is off the car and you can get a clear view I thought I would show you what I am doing to may sure my 1968 Chevelle will be able to handle all the potential upgrades I plan to make. One of my biggest concerns is vapor lock and I have searched youtube and other resources for tips. Take a look at this video before and the other videos in the links below when you are designing your fuel system. Also below you will find a link to part 2 of this video reviewing the engine side of the fuel system.

Classic Car Build Tips - Power Steering upgrade, 1968 Chevelle - Episode 2
Переглядів 6 тис.5 років тому
Hello Everyone, I want to start by mentioning that I am not sponsored by anyone (although that would be awesome). Every Hotrod enthusiast wants a car that handles well and not all of us can afford a rack and pinion steering conversion kit. This is the next best thing without crazy costs. You don't have to buy a custom steering box when it comes to an old Chevy, because there are plenty of diffe...

It also tells you what changes to make to insure smooth running of the ATV so that your child will be able to spend more time riding it and you will spend less time fixing it. I recommend making these changes if you have not already done so to any ATV made in China. Have fun

Good Video; however, I purchased three different rebuilt boxes. 2 from Oreillys and 1 from Auto Zone. All were suppose to be from the 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee and were even listed as 3 turns lock to lock on Oreillys website. All Three were 3.5 turns lock to lock which is a 14:1 ratio not 12.7:1. It looks like the rebuilders are not selling the correct box. I returned all three and purchased a new box from Sweet Mfg.

Nice video. Just wanted to mention that I went to a dual 6 volt battery system recently and I’m simply amazed at the difference it made in my reserve capacity. It’s night and day vs. the single 12v battery. I highly recommend doing this for boondock camping. Cheers!

Hey I'm Justin and I have a 92 Starcraft pop up and my roof is rotted on one side where the AC is on what you think is the best way to reinforce and go about

    • @Backyardbuilder
      @Backyardbuilder 5 років тому

Hello Justin, I would reinforce it with a square steel beam. Go to a dealer and take a look all the new models have some steel support holing up the roof. You can make your own easily with some 1.5 or 2" square stock. The trick is making brackets to hold the beam that work for your application.

The edge trim unscrews and they sell a clay like role tape you put in and screw the trim back down. It is not difficult.

Thank you for posting. I just bought a 1977 Starcraft. We live in Colorado so the damage and wear and tear isn’t too bad, but I was wondering out to economically fix the roof as well. Thank you for posting. You have one of the few videos showing what to use and explaining how to fix the top. Thanks for sharing. I will have to take before and after pictures to share with every one as well.

I know you got a ton of negative about mixing gas with electric. Just so you know, those propane tanks will off gas in extreme heat, they are designed to relieve pressure. We found that out with our Coleman pop up camper. Both Tongue mounted tanks began off gassing at a rest stop in Utah in 113 degree heat. Mixing your electric with your gas IS BAD. Period. I mounted all my electric just inside the door in a small closet, too small to be useful except for electrical use. I also had solar charging, a power generator and the works. The difference was I had outlets on the side of the camper, well way from those tanks. Its best never to enclose the tanks, they need to breathe incase of off gassing. even here in Northern Michigan, parking in a lot can trigger the pressure valve. I had one tank with a defective valve once that purged my full tank of propane. The valve stuck open. I found out they recalled ALL those tanks because of that issue. I got a new tank, but lost my $12 propane. Never, ever mix gas with electricity. It only has to fail once.

I just got a used Starcraft pop up trailer. The edging that meets between the roof and base is falling off. It’s kinda like the part that is sandwiched in the middle when it’s being closed. There’s like a metal edge then right under it is a black tubing or gasket. Those are the parts falling off. How can I get the parts to fix it?

  • @CavemanCBB

Simple but, effective. I like it !!! I understood that you are going to be taping up things later and I was not worried about fire or explosions. I agree that switching to LED lights is great. I did it and was very happy with the little bit of electricity they draw. Great video.

  • @vickiseaunier

Hi great video I like some of your idea's. Definitely want to add solar to our's. I have a question for you we are missing the whole propane set up from the front bottom of the trailer to the tanks. We were considering going with just one tank but after seeing your video we might go back to two tanks. Was it hard to find the set up you needed for the propane? Did you have to take the trailer with you to get the set up? I took the one tube with me that I have to a propane shop and he looked at me like I had horns and didn't know what I needed and wanted me to bring my trailer up to him. Thank for your help.

You might want to pick up new propane tanks at Costco - each spring they get them in, and they have built-in guages that show the propane level more accurately, and with the propane shut off, they still work (yours need to have the propane valve open to indicate the level).

Thanks for the video , I done all of what your showing , other than all of that enclosed part , i added another tank & welded up a encloser for my generator to sit above all that & just run a cord to the 110 severice that's on the camper & also I ran a plug out of the battery box to charge up my battery off of the 13.8 volt charging system that's all ready on the generator . & i put a digital readout off of the batteries so i could just flip it on inside to tell me how much volts was in them without using a meter . anyway Good video . Thanks.

Good work bro! :-) I have a Starcraft too given to me by my dad. It is in fairly good condition but the roof was all rotted out by years of water infiltrations due to pinholes in the aluminium sheating. I took it off and rebuilt it from scratch. The side and end pannels are made of OSB, capped with white flat aluminium on the inside and textured aluminium outside. Took everything apart and had to build new panels out of 1/2" veneer. Stuck back the textured aluminium on the exterior but only primed and painted the interior with exterior grade latex paint. It weighs half as much as it used to and is a hell of a lot stiffer! Built veneer cross framing out of the same 1/2" veneer. I did cut 1 1/2 strips and stuck them on top of each other to add stiffness and a curvy profile to the roof, but it wasn't enough to give it a good enough pitch so that water wouldn't pool in the center. I ended up buying a 1 1/8" x 1 1/2" steel L angle at a friend's machining shop. I chose steel over aluminium for its strenght. Aluminium was way too flimsy! Cut it to fit and gave it a slight vertical curve so it would push the center of the roof up. It did raise the center of the roof by over an inch! Now the roof can withstand over 300lbs of weight. A 200lbs adult could easily stand in the middle of the roof with no danger to see it buckling. It is nice, strong, and I know I won't have to worry about any leaks for years to come! I would like to design some ceiling-mounted-type storage cabinets that I can take down while driving from one place to another. Any ideas?
